Grade 8 Study Visit to Chilca
As part of their ongoing practical
education in science, the 14th of May
of this year grade 8 students had the
opportunity to visit the Chilca Lakes.
These lakes are attributed mystical
and healing properties because of
the large quantities of salts they con-
tain. Aside fromesotericism, students
were able to familiarize with the use
of various laboratory instruments
to study the physical and chemical
properties of the samples of water
extracted from this unique location.
The science students started by ex-
ploring and charting the area, then
they proceeded to collect the water
samples and finally they performed
rigorous measurements of proper-
ties such as turbidity and pH. As ex-
pected, the students’ experimental
results showed that this saline wa-
ter possesses properties that highly
differ from those of pure water. The
study visit proved quite successful, as
the students managed to apply their
science knowledge acquired indoors
to a field work context.
