Study Visit to Pantanos de Villa by Grade 7
On Wednesday June 18th 2014, Grade
7 visited the Pantanos de Villa. Our gui-
de showed us various interesting parts
of the swamp, including the names of
some animal and plant species. A wet-
land ecosystem like the Pantanos de Vi-
lla is very important to the city of Lima
and the migratory birds. Therefore, it is
globally recognised as a RAMSAR site – a
wetland site of international significan-
ce.
After a short informative video, we tou-
red the swamp. We noticed how some
parts of the swamp smelled really bad
and asked our guide why this was the
case. She explained to us that the wa-
ter is quite polluted and therefore so-
metimes smells like that. At the end of
the walk we climbed a large tower. From
up there we could see the whole of the
Pantanos de Villa and the areas around
it. We saw the building projects around
the swamp and noticed how the area is
getting a bit smaller every year.
