Grade 8th Study Visit to Real Felipe Fortress
On 15th of August, pupils of Grade 8 visited the Fortress of Real
Felipe in Callao. This place was built to defend the port and the
city of Lima from pirates during colonial time. Nowadays, the
fortress is a museum open to the public.
All pupils were very interested in learning about our ancestors
and asked interesting questions to the different guides in the
fortress. They had the chance to visit the King’s Tower which
was closed to the public for a number of years. Besides, they
could see how prisoners were treated in those times and how
they were tortured by the Spanish army.
Students had the chance to see all the process that Lima went
through from being under the power of Spain through to its
independence. They admired the monuments of the different
presidents who governed during the establishment of the Re-
public.
Another experience during this visit was that students were
able to appreciate the weapons used by the old army. As we
know, this fortress was built during the colonial time, but it was
later used by the Peruvian Army.
We strongly recommend you to visit this wonderful place and
we hope to make this trip again in the future.
