Short Story Competition
‘’No you aren’t,’’ I shook my head, ‘’I grandfather is
called Marcus, not Or-whatever.’’
He seemed sad as he stood up and walked in the
big room, searching for something. He reached a
box and took out another book – a photo album.
He opened it and gave it to me, showing me a sin-
gle picture.
‘’This is your mother,’’ he started as he pointed at a
lady with purple hair, ‘’But she went insane as she
lost your father. This is him,’’ he continued, poin-
ting at a black-haired man, ‘’But he went to the
war and never came back. And this,’’ he pointed at
a white-haired man, ‘’is me.’’
I couldn’t talk. Everything was so confusing at
bizarre that I thought I would faint right in the
moment. Mum and dad weren’t my real parents?
I looked at who was supposed to be my grandfa-
ther and frowned gently, not wanting to hurt his
feelings anymore.
‘’Was there a war?’’ I asked.
‘’There still is.’’
‘’And…who are fighting?’’
He was silent for a minute and then stood up,
trembling.
‘’The humans… against our people.’’
Suddenly, the door bursted open and someone
walked in. He was wearing an armor and had a
sword on his hand, both covered in blood. I tried
my best not to scream, but it was useless as the
panic covered me. I knew exactly who he was –
the man that took me there.
‘’Run!’’my grandfather screamed.
And so I did. I ran as fast as my legs could and went
past the man. I could hear people panicking, and
creature appeared in front of me: a man with ea-
gle wings on his back, a girl with claws and even
something with two heads and a tail. It scared me
even more as I kept running and running, passing
through Shin and many others.
As I passed through a door, a cry took my atten-
tion. I stopped and turned around, just to find the
purpled-hair lady sitting on the floor, crying. At
first I thought she was going to attacked me, but
as she didn’t do so, I shook her.
‘’Mum! Mum! Hurry! We have to get out of here!’’ I
screamed.
She looked at me and smiled her pixie-like face
bright again. She hugged me tightly, trembling;
I noticed her nightgown was all dirty and ripped
off.
‘’No time for hugs, we have to go!’’ I tried to make
her stop, and about two minutes later I was able
to do so.
‘’Let’s go.’’
We both ran as fast as we could, looking for an
exit. More creatures got in our way, all of them pa-
nicking. The lady – or mum – just kept on running
next to me, until we found ourselves in a room.
I closed the door, hearing the screams from the
creatures, as the lady just stood there, quite, at the
middle of the room.
‘’What are you looking at?’’ I asked gently, frow-
ning.
She pointed with her index finger the other end of
the room. I gasped: the whole wall was beautifu-
lly decorated with paintings and different things,
turning it into a beautiful mural. Mum smiled.
‘’You have to scape,’’ she said.
‘’I know that,’’ I answered, ‘’But how?’’
