SENIOR SCHOOL
St George’s Day
This year we decided to hold a festival full of exhibitions for St. George’s Day and the whole school
community truly enjoyed themselves! Our school was decorated with hundreds of St. George’s
flags and hundreds of red roses, both objects being the two strongest symbols of England.
Our Head of Senior School, Mr. Juan Juliá Pearson, spoke about the legend of St. George’s and
explained the religious characteristics of the story. The English department, represented by Mrs.
Judith Scanlon, then prepared a presentation on British literature commemorating the birth and
death of William Shakespeare as part of British culture. Our students really enjoyed hearing the
sonnets read out by our British teachers.
Next on our agenda was some Morris Dancing by our grade 6 students and directed by Mrs. Gra-
ciela Barrera; it was a real joy to see our students dress in traditional English costumes from the
Cotswolds region in England. Our students did a fantastic job!
This dance was followed by an exhibition of a Medieval Battle- the Battle of Evesham- by our grade
9 Drama students. They did such an excellent job that we all thought we were in England during
the 13th century! Congratulations to Ms. Jimena Ballen for leading this part.
The final exhibition was a tug of war between tea-
chers; we called it the Battle of England and there
were four teams of teachers participating in all the
fun. This was so popular between students that it
has now become a school tradition and we plan to
continue to entertain our students for many years.
As the show ended, all students were invited to en-
ter the school cafeteria for some birthday cake.
